Turner Prize-winning artist Grayson Perry is renowned for his ceramic pots, decorated with imagery and text that chronicle social concerns including class politics, sex and religion. Stories of his own formative experiences and his alter ego, Claire, also weave through his visual language. Psychologically complex and often caustic in tone, humour and satire is ever-present in Perry’s practice; he uses a wide range of techniques in the making of his work, including tapestry, printmaking and bronze.

Perry is a prolific printmaker, often making richly detailed works on a grand scale. Recently he has been preoccupied with America and this large etching, in the form of a wartime strategic map and printed in the colours of the US flag, is a scathing critique of the country’s leadership and its historical cultural failings. The country is under attack from a swarm of vessels and airships representing issues including racism, the class divide, the TV news and veganism. Accomplished at numerous printmaking techniques, Perry combines a swirling sea with cut-out textual messages and flat silhouetted areas to create this characteristically impactful work.
Perry has exhibited his work internationally. He is also a multi-award-winning television presenter, recently presenting a series for Channel 4 with an accompanying book. A major exhibition of his work, The Greatest Art Exhibition Ever! was held at the Serpentine Gallery in the summer of 2017. Perry was elected a Royal Academician in 2012, and was awarded a CBE in 2013. He lives and works in London.
